Kickingbird Cinema in Edmond Reopens

8 Nov

A windstorm in August caused heavy damage to Kickingbird Cinema in Edmond, but it is now ready to reopen its doors.  The 70 mph winds seriously damaged the roof, which led to flooding in the interior. Everything inside the theater was damaged, including the air conditioning system and electrical equipment.

According to Monica McCain, the cinema will be opening at least four of the eight screens. There are still problems concerning the other screens, which will be delayed until January, but most of the interior has been renovated and repaired. The roof repairs alone cost about $100,000, and they also had to replace two projectors for more than $70,000 each, curtains, and carpets.

The expected date of reopening is November 11, but there will be a grand reopening celebration on November 23rd, which falls on the 23rd anniversary of the theatre.  The old cinema house was established in 1988, and it has been a favorite among moviegoers for years.
