Avoiding Moving Mistakes How to Make Your Move Easier and More Effective

Moving to a new house can be very exciting. The idea of living in a new environment is a fun concept. However, despite the thrill of moving, it can also be quite exhausting. Packing everything and making sure all of your things are secured well takes a lot of time and energy. So, it’s best to have people around to help you on your big moving day.

When you and your family plan to move, you want it to be as smooth and convenient as possible. Unfortunately, there are a number of common mistakes and pitfalls that many people fall into.  Here are a few of them and how you can avoid them.

  • Not setting a good time. When you move, you need to consider the journey of your items from your old place to your new one. Traffic jams and heavy rainstorms can be avoided if you plan your move well. Several days prior to your move, plan ahead and set a specific time.
  • Not scheduling with your moving company ahead of time. Unless your moving company simply waits around for your call, you need to realize that other people are moving too, so you need to reserve a time.  Try to schedule a move with your moving company weeks in advance, so you they will be available and ready to help you.
  • Not giving your movers the exact location and details of your new house. Your mover’s cost will depend on the description you give them of your new home.  So, if you fail to inform them that they need to take your items up four flights of stairs, for example, they will probably have to charge you more than they initially quoted you if the assumption was that there was ground level entry.  Be up front and specific from the beginning.
  • Not delegating certain things to the pros. Moving may seem easy enough…all you need to do is pack, deliver, and unpack. In reality, however, there are certain things that need to be handled more delicately, and movers know how to do that. So, don’t skimp on the cost of hiring a professional if it will make things easier and safer in the end.
  • Not labeling your boxes. You may know what is inside that small box, but your movers don’t.  If you fail to label your boxes, they will just put everything in one pile, and it will take a lot of time for you to sort through them and move them around later.
