Time-Saving Tips for Moving into Your New Home

Planning a move may be an exciting adventure, but it’s certainly not an easy task.  There are a lot of things to consider before the big day arrives. First, you need to plan for the big day by deciding what moving company to hire, what to bring, what to get rid of, when to move etc.  Then, you need to pack your things.  And finally, you need to unpack your things and organize them to fit your new home once you arrive.

Moving to a new house can become all-consuming, but if you plan ahead, you won’t have to put as much time into it as you may think.  Below are some helpful tips for saving time during your next move:

  • Create a checklist. You don’t want to forget anything during your moving process, so creating a checklist will give you an organized idea of what you have already done and what you still need to do.
  • Plan your move months ahead if possible. A sudden move can be stressful – and expensive. If you try to hire a moving company a day or two before your move, it is likely that they will either be unavailable or will charge a higher rate.
  • Establish a good packing system. Packing and unpacking your things can take many hours. Establish a good packing system, so you can move in a quicker and more organized way.
  • Prepare your new home. Don’t wait to clean the house until after you have all of your things inside. If you prepare your new home in advance, you can immediately arrange your furniture and unpack boxes in a nice, clean space rather than try to clean around boxes before you unpack anything.
  • Hire a good moving company. Work with a company that does not get delayed or postpone schedules. Hire a company that arrives on time and can do the move safely and quick.
  • Schedule early. If possible, do your move in the morning on a weekend. Avoid driving in rush hour because it will only cause delays (and may be a scary experience if you’re driving a moving truck yourself for the first time).
  • Downsize. Do you have a lot of things? Just imagine how much time it requires to pack and unpack those things, not to mention organizing them in their proper places. Downsize your things so it will be less time-consuming to arrange everything and you will start in your new home with a clean, fresh feeling.
