Ways to Organize and De-clutter Your Laundry Room

Ways to Organize and De-clutter Your Laundry Room

Most of us do not think of the laundry room as an area that needs to be organized. In reality, however, it has many items that need to be organized.  Clean clothes, for example, should be folded and put away.  Detergents and chemicals that may be harmful to your children and pets should be stored in high, secure places away from their reach.

Another good reason to organize your laundry area is that it will help lessen the time it takes to do your laundry. You won’t have to waste time looking for the items you need or trying to balance items on areas that are full of clothes.

So, below are few tips to help you organize your laundry room:

  1. Remove items that do not belong in the room. Only allow items that belong in the room to stay there.  You will be surprised by what a difference this one simple thing will make.
  2. Add a cabinet to the room. This will provide you with a great place to store the items you need rather than stacking them up on a table. Consider placing the cabinet above the washing machine for easy reach and making sure it is spacious enough to hold all of your cleaning supplies.
  3. Install hanger racks. Place a bar along one wall, where you can hang clothes that need to air dry and keep finished items until you can put them away.
  4. Have a laundry basket. Place a laundry basket in an easily-accessibly area, so your family can place their dirty clothes directly into it and you won’t have to find clothes lying all over the floor. It is also best if you sort your colors and whites into two separate baskets, which will make doing your laundry easier.
  5. Use smaller, lightweight items that take up less space. Replace your large washing machine, dryer, and ironing board with smaller ones that will still easily handle your needs. The less space you utilize, the more space you have to move around and work efficiently.
  6. Clean it regularly.  Spend 5 to 10 minutes every day cleaning things. Put the items you used back where they belong before leaving the laundry room and remove any items that do not belong in the room.

The tips mentioned above are easy and practical steps that can eventually turn into habits if you use them regularly.  They will lead to a more organized laundry room and quicker chores, so you can spend more time doing fun things with your family.

Winter Home Decorating Ideas

Winter Home Decorating Ideas

Winter is the coldest time of year, which makes us look forward to returning to the comfort and warm of our own homes at the end of the day. For many, it is also their favorite time to have family and friends over for pleasant gatherings. Those two things alone are reason enough to think about winter decor!

If you are having hard time deciding where to begin, here are a few great ideas to help you get started on your winter decor:

  1. Remove any fall decorations. Start fresh with a winter theme and take down all Thanksgiving- themed or other fall decor, such as pumpkins and cornucopias.
  2. Pick a color scheme. The colors will create a visual feeling of warmth. Red, green, gold, blue, and silver can be great colors to use when decorating your home. Just balance your bolder colors with neutrals as well to keep them from becoming overbearing.
  3. Change your window treatments. Use curtains with fabrics that are heavier, more luxurious, and of colors that are more dramatic. You can also use layering to give warmth to the room.
  4. Change the fabric in your home. You can make your home feel warmer in winter by using fabric with heavier materials in deeper colors. Use velvet, wool, and fleece material for slipcovers, throws, and area rugs. Cotton area rugs or rugs made of jute are another option that are budget-friendly, but still add comfort and warmth to your home.
  5. Bring on the candles. Candles not only add elegance and a trendy look to your home, but they are also an inexpensive source of heat and light. Their scent can also help set a mood within your home and make it feel warm and inviting.
  6. Rearrange your furniture. Move your furniture closer together to give the room a cozier look make conversation easier.

With the tips mentioned above and a bit of creativity, you can create a winter space that will make you feel comfortable and warm, whether you’re curled up with a good book or making memories with family and friends.

Construction of Edmond’s First Designated Bicycle Lanes Nears Completion

Bike lanes in the city can help maintain safety among those who plan to use their bikes in their daily commute. Recently, many people have been shifting to healthier and simpler lifestyle options, such as utilizing bikes as forms of transportation instead of vehicles. If bikes lanes are designated in public roads, there will be a safer lane for them to stay in traffic.

Edmond, Oklahoma is supporting the emergence of a greater and safer cyclist community by the construction of its first designated bicycle lanes in the city. The bicycle lanes will be located along the University Drive between Second Street and Chowning Avenue. The existing road has been reconstructed to accommodate a two-lane road, a center turn lane and two bikes lanes on the side of the road.

Based on the current status of the construction, the highly anticipated bicycle lanes will soon be serving cyclists in the city. Construction of the bike lanes are near its completion with little work left to be done on the striping and placement of signage.

Once construction is completed, the city will celebrate its newest thoroughfare in a city-wide cycling day, on which bikers will be encouraged to christen the new road.  The celebration will be held on Nov. 3 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Carpet Cleaning Guide

Carpet Cleaning Guide

No matter what the shape and size of your carpets or rugs are, they can easily become dirty due to continuous exposure to the elements, foot traffic, and pet hair.  Therefore, it is important to know how to clean them properly, so they will remain well-maintained and continue to be beautiful in your home.

Below are a few tips that you may find helpful:

  1. Choose how often you will clean your carpet. If you opt for cleaning your carpet once a year, it is advised to go and hire a carpet cleaning machine or buy one for yourself.
  2. Clean your carpet with cleaning solution. You can choose to clean your carpet with shampoo, but most professional cleaners use cleaning solutions specifically for carpet cleaning. All you have to do is spread the cleaning solution over the carpet, let it dry, and vacuum it up with a vacuum cleaner.
  3. Vacuum on a daily basis. This is a great way to clean your carpets regularly. While you are vacuuming, you will remove the dust, hair, and other dirt that lie along the surface and can be easily removed.
  4. Use steam cleaning.  This is a very effective cleaning method and works especially well when combined with other cleaning methods. Steam cleaning uses water vapor from a steam cleaning machine to help clean the deeper, hard to reach areas in the fibers of your carpet. With steam cleaning, you will be able to say goodbye to stubborn stains in no time.
  5. Use spot cleaning. It should be done first with clean water and a blotting cloth. But, if that isn’t successful, use stronger chemicals. It is a good idea to wear gloves and handle chemicals carefully when using this method.

Decorating Your Home with Mirrors

Decorating Your Home with Mirrors

Mirrors are not just for practical use, so we can make sure our outfits looks okay.  They are also an incredible accessory that can instantly give a room a face-lift. No matter where you put a mirror, it will always be a light-reflecting source, thus making the space look bigger.  There are a few things, however, that you should consider in order to maximize a mirror’s impact.  The size, shape, hanging height, and design of the frame are just some of the elements that need to be considered. Below are few guides to follow:

  1. Measure the area where you would like to position it.  This will help you make sure that you are not buying a mirror that is too big or too small for your space.
  2. Consider the placement of a wall mirror.  You can install mirrors in smaller rooms because they are able to create the illusion of a space appearing bigger than it is. For bathroom mirrors, be sure to find one that can survive damp conditions. When choosing mirrors for a bedroom or hallway, opt for something more decorative in style.
  3. The shape of the mirror and the way you hang it will give impact on your space. Hanging your mirror vertically will add height to a space, while hanging it horizontally will fill a wall. Mirrors with arched or richly ornamented tops are a smart way to enhance a space.
  4. Add mirrors to dark corners. This is a great way to enhance a dull and boring wall. It is best to use round framed mirrors of different sizes and randomly position them on the darkest wall of the corner.
  5. Use mirrors of different shapes and sizes on the same wall. This will create a beautiful visual effect and is an excellent way to add light and depth to your room. You can use their different shapes and sizes to create a pattern across an entire wall or within a smaller, defined area.

There are plenty of ways to utilize mirrors as home decor. Experiment and be creative with the mirrors you have and see for yourself how much transformation it will bring to your home.

House Cleaning Tips

Cleaning your house is sometimes a burden and hard to handle, especially if you’re trying to balance a career and take care of your family.  It is oftentimes consuming and laborious. Room gets too messy and it leaves you with no idea of where to begin.

Everyone loves a spotless house, but no one wants to spend their time cleaning.  So, below are a few methods to make chores easier and more effective:

  1. Set up a weekly cleaning schedule.  Set aside a specific amount of time that you will dedicate to your housekeeping chores to make sure that you do not forget anything important. It comes down to proper time management and avoiding spending too much time on just one task.
  2. Create a cleaning supplies checklist.  Keep your cleaning supplies well-stocked and stored in one place.   It will help you avoid the situation of not having what you need when it’s time to clean.
  3. Organize your clutter. Organize and label everything. Use clear plastic storage boxes to help you group items and make it easier to access them when you need them.   Perhaps you can place your children’s toys in one box or all of your off-season clothes in another.
  4. Clean stains and spills promptly.  When someone spills on your floor or furniture, deal with it right away. Stains are easier to clean when they are fresh and haven’t dried yet.  This will help you reduce the amount of time you must spend to remove them.
  5. Don’t Procrastinate.  Finish the task you have started before you try to move on to another.  If you delay finishing things, you will become overwhelmed with a long list of projects that pile up.

Cleaning your house doesn’t have to be a whole-day event as long as you approach the matter in a systematic way. By using the tips mentioned above, you will keep your home looking spotless without exerting as much effort.
