Great OKC Tree Give-Away Offers Trees to OKC Storm Victims

The storms in late May have left bare lands, destroyed properties and broken families in the city of Moore, Oklahoma. Just as lives were injured, trees that gave life and beauty to Moore were also damaged and destroyed.

To help restore the trees in the affected areas of the city, a tree giveaway is planned this month for qualified residents. Those who have been victims of the May storms will have a chance to receive free trees to plant in their yard. This will help gradually restore what the disaster has taken away from the community.

This event is called the Great OKC Tree Give-Away. The city of Oklahoma City has partnered with the Tree bank Foundation for the seventh year and the OSU-OKC campus is to hold the program on October 26, at the Physical Plant on 900 North Portland Avenue.

Residents who wish to take advantage of this offer will need to register in advance starting on October 9th at 9 a.m. Qualified applicants must live inside the Moore city limits. After registering, residents will receive a confirmation postcard outlining the required procedure for claiming their trees.

Only those who have their registration confirmation card and photo ID will be able to participate in the program . There will be eight hundred trees available to the public, including oaks, crape myrtles, maples, sycamores and junipers.
