Buddy Walk Promotes Down Syndrome Awareness

Many individuals with Down syndrome experience certain unique challenges in everyday life. Children and adults with Down syndrome may suffer especially with their social skills and development and sometimes find it hard to deal with society.

In support of Down syndrome awareness, a fundraising walk was hosted by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in 1995 as part of the October celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Since then, the annual walk has been celebrated each October and been joined by a multitude of Oklahomans.

This year, the Buddy Walk is set to be held on October 19, 2013 at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The Down syndrome awareness walk will be participated by no less than 4,000 people from the city and around the state.

Along with the much-awaited walk, other forms of entertainment are in line for everyone. There will be games, face painting, cake walks, moon bounces, an exotic animal petting zoo and a luau. Funds raised during the event are used for Down syndrome research, education and advocacy efforts.
