Center for Employment Opportunities Helps Former Inmates Find Jobs

Center for Employment Opportunities Helps Former Inmates Find Jobs

Many released inmates are finding it hard to get their lives back. Because of the criminal records they carry with them, it is difficult to earn the trust of potential employers and find a job.

The Center for Employment Opportunities is an organization that aims to provide support to inmates who have been released and are on the hunt for a job. The organization is seeking ways to get those with criminal records a suitable job based on their levels of skill.

Last week, the organization had announced the opening of its new office in Oklahoma City. This creates more opportunities for those with criminal records living in Oklahoma City and nearby counties. The organization can help them prepare for a job application and interview, as well as find more job opportunities through partnerships with the government and other private sector venues.

According to Center for Employment Opportunities Oklahoma Director Kelly Doyle, the organization is partnering with parole officers in identifying inmates that may be in need of jobs. They are also partnering with private sectors in finding job opportunities for these people.

A recent project of the Center for Employment Opportunities is the cleanup program of the city of Moore. Some inmates who participated with the organization had helped in cleaning up debris in areas damaged by the tornado.

Tips for Cleaning Your Concrete Flooring

13 Jan

Tips for Cleaning Your Concrete Flooring

Concrete flooring is durable, inexpensive, and easy to maintain. It is used widely for outdoor surfaces, but many people have also started using it inside their homes. Despite its many benefits, however, concrete flooring can become very unclean if neglected and can become a host to mold and mildew.

Read on below to find out the best ways to clean your concrete floors and keep them looking good.

  1. Choose the right product to clean your concrete floors. If your concrete floor has stains, determine what caused the stain because not all concrete cleaners work on every type of stain. The labels will give you valuable information you can use to decide which cleaner is best.
  2. You can begin to clean your concrete floors by sweeping them thoroughly to remove all loose debris. Run your dust mop over the floor to pick up any dust and fine particles. Use a bucket and fill it with about one gallon of warm water and a small amount of mild cleaner or dish soap. Dip the wet mop in the cleaning solution and mop the floor in small sections. Rinse and wring the mop frequently.
  3. You can apply diluted beach for stains on exterior concrete flooring. Pour the diluted mixture directly on the stain and leave it for several minutes. Then, pour hot water onto the stain and scrub it with a synthetic-bristled brush. Repeat this method until the stain is removed
  4. Using a sand blaster is one of the best ways to clean concrete floors. It uses compressed air to target the granules of sand towards the surface and it immediately removes the dirt and grime. Hold the sand blaster about 18 inches from your body, point the nozzle toward the concrete floor, and squeeze the trigger. Gradually increase the pressure until the concrete floor is clean.

How to Make Your Bathroom Look Like a Spa

How to Make Your Bathroom Look Like a Spa

Having the perfect bathroom layout can add a touch of beauty and luxury to your home. Bathroom designs nowadays are going for a contemporary look that serves as a place of relaxation rather than just a place where you merely take a bath or wash-up in the morning. Below are some tips for transforming your bathroom into a spa-like sanctuary:

1. Keep your bathroom clean. This is the most important part of creating a relaxing atmosphere. Dirty laundry on the floor or cosmetics and medicine scattered all over the counter are not conducive to relaxation.  Remove the area of clutter.

2. Soften up the lighting in your bathroom. You can easily do this by changing your light bulbs to halogen bulbs. Halogen bulbs produce a wide colour spectrum that allows the true colours of natural materials to glow in a bathroom. You can install a dimmer as well to adjust the lighting in your bathroom depending on your mood.

3. Add a calming scent to the room to achieve a spa-like sensory experience. Vanilla, lavender, cinnamon, rose, and jasmine are great scents for relaxation. You can add these scents via candles, diffusers, scented oils, and bubble bath.

4. Purchase spa products that help you pamper yourself, such as foot scrubs, bath salts, face masks, bath oils, scented lotions, and a manicure/pedicure set.

5. Hang robes made of satin, silk, cotton, or towel materials and matching sandals to go with them. You can use them after your home spa session to prolong the comfortable feelings.

6. Use clear glass. The transparency will create continuity in the room. It makes the bath look much larger and keeps a shower stall from visually chopping up the bathroom layout.

Bamboo Fencing for Your Backyard

6 Jan

Bamboo Fencing for Your Backyard

One of the most unique and durable types of fencing materials is bamboo. It offers homeowners versatile fencing solutions for everything from a temporary fence to a permanently enclosed space. Bamboo fences are also very hard-wearing. You can expect them to last up to 20 years as long as the panels are not placed on the ground. After bamboo shoots are harvested for use, they are dried, cured, and coated with a natural wax that prevents damage from water or mildew. With bamboo fencing, you can choose from a huge variety of colors and designs and let your creativity flow.

Bamboo fencing can come in either rolls or panels, each of which is fastened by durable, stainless steel galvanized wire. Split bamboo fencing is another style. Fencing is made out of the outer surface of the bamboo cane tied together with wire. If you already have a pre-installed chain-link fence in place, it is easy to install a rolled bamboo fence on top of it. Just wrap the bamboo roll on the pre-existing fence and attach the bamboo with a durable galvanized wire at regular intervals.

You can also opt to install a stand-alone bamboo fence. This requires heavy-duty wooden poles to provide a vertical framework along which the bamboo pieces are placed. When using cut bamboo as a fencing material, always remember to keep it a few inches off the ground because it rots quickly if it comes into contact the ground’s moisture.

It is important to invest in a bamboo saw, so that you can ensure a nice, even cut with no jagged edges during installation. Sharp wire-cutters can also be used for bamboo rolls. And, like any other natural product, bamboo fencing needs to be treated to avoid decay and weathering. Apple a thin coat of UV resistant stain to your bamboo fencing to protect it against the weathering effects of your climate.

Ensuring the Isolation of Germs while Sickness is Present in your Household

2 Jan

Ensuring the Isolation of Germs while Sickness is Present in your Household

We all pity those in the family who are suffering from the flu, colds or any kind of sickness. We feel sympathetic when we see them lying in bed, trying to fight the sickness in their body. However, one of the most anxious feelings we can undergo in this situation is the possibility of contracting the same virus.

Germs and bacteria spread quickly around the house when someone is sick. It is all too common for family members to display symptoms of illness when a loved one falls prey to sickness.  The best way to ensure good health is to stop the spread of germs before it can start infecting everyone in the house.

What do you need to do when someone is sick inside your home?

    •    Use a reliable disinfectant. Disinfectant always kills most of the germs that may come in contact with your body. Start by disinfecting your telephones, door knobs and other areas where the sick family member may have come in contact with. You can also wipe counters clean as well as tables and chairs.
•    Wash your hands. This is especially important for someone who is carrying the sickness. Wash your hands so germs will be unable to spread. Try to wash before and after caring for the sick and preparing food.

    •    Separate your belongings from those of your sick family members. Whatever they are using may be contaminated. These can easily spread out towards the things you use, such as toothbrush, spoons, combs and towels. As much as possible, keep these objects separate from each-other for the meantime.

    •    Clean the house every day. This will help you control the spread of germs, especially if you thoroughly clean the house. Clean the bathrooms and kitchen, ensuring these areas are not moist, as germs grow quickly in damp places.

    •    Change the beddings regularly. Change bedsheets and pillowcases, especially those that are used by your sick family member. Then, wash them immediately in a hot water cycle to kill of the germs.

    •    Do not put your hands on your eyes, mouth or nose. These areas of the body are entryways of germs. Use a towel instead to wipe these areas clean.
