Improve Your Home with Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles

31 Mar

Remodelling your home can be an exciting venture. When it comes to ceilings, sometimes they need to be replaced for structural reasons, but other times, it can be fun to remodel them simply for aesthetic reasons. More homeowners are starting to explore the use of tin ceiling tiles, as they add a touch of charisma and grandeur to any room. Their downfall, however, is that they are heavy, expensive, and hard to install.

Faux tin ceiling tiles are a great alternative. They offer a tin-like appearance, but cost a fraction of the price. They are usually made of PVC, polystyrene, or fibreglass materials that are highly stain-resistant. Dirt and moisture have nowhere to collect once they hit the surface, which also makes them very durable and maintenance free.

Faux tin ceiling tiles are easy to install and can be completed in one day in most rooms. There are two methods of installing them: drop in or glue up. Both ways are simple and require little effort because faux tin ceiling tiles have lightweight designs that allow them to be easily cut with scissors and affixed with ceiling adhesive. Use 24” x 24” tiles for larger rooms and 12”x 12” tiles for smaller areas. When purchasing your tiles, buy at least 10% more than what you think you’ll need to accommodate the areas around the edges that must be covered, but that do not require full tiles.

Faux tin ceiling tiles come in bronze, silver, and many painted colors. Paint your walls white or a neutral color to draw more attention to your faux metal ceiling. You can also add ceiling fans if you want to add a vintage touch.
Faux tin ceiling tiles are a great option if you want to create the ambiance of an earlier age. They are eye-catching and can add an antiqued look to both old and new structures alike. They create a high-end look without breaking your pocketbook, and they create a wow-factor that your friends and family won’t forget.

How To Keep Your Basement Dry

How To Keep Your Basement Dry

Excess moisture in a home, especially in the basement, can result in mold and mildew growth as well as a number of health issues. Wet basement will also spread humidity to all parts of the house, causing the structure to trap musty air.

Preventing your basement from becoming damp is a long-term investment in your home, making it a healthier place for you and your family to live in. Waterproofing it will also add value to the home which makes selling it much easier. There several methods to keeping your basement dry. Here are your options and what to expect with each.

  1. 1.       Drainage System. This is the key element of waterproofing any basement, as it can quickly and efficiently eliminate any water that enters the area. Make sure that the drain is placed deep within the basement, near the top portion of concrete to enable it to drain water from any location in the basement including the lowest points.
  2. 2.       Walls coverings. Have a professional install a moisture barrier along the walls and floors to protect your basement from excess water. Wall coverings can be mechanically attached to the walls which act as a vapor barrier.
  3. 3.       Sump Pumps. These are made to take water from your basement and carry it back outside of your home. Get a sump pump that resists clogging. Make sure to maintain it regularly by removing the debris and obstructions from the sump liner and cleaning the filters or screens that are attached to the sump pump.
  4. 4.       Dehumidifier.  You need to do something about the humidity problem if you want to prevent further damage to your basement. Basements are most likely to be affected by humidity because they are usually partially or completely underground. The best thing you can do is to invest in a basement humidifier.
  5. 5.       Basement floor matting. This is a plastic floor tile that acts a vapor barrier, eliminating the upward movement of water by depressurizing the space. You can then safely cover the tiles with carpet or wood flooring once you have the basement water flooring.

Severe water damage can cause critical structural issues in your home, such as bowed walls. The battle to keep your basement dry doesn’t have to be difficult, but it is important to win the battle!

Important People You Should Have When Buying a Home

20 Mar

Important People You Should Have When Buying a Home
The process of buying a home involves a lot of people.  There are many things to consider when buying a home because you want to be sure that your money is not misused and that the people you are working with have your best interests at heart. What makes investing in a home more complicated is figuring out who to select as your “team” that will aid you through the process.

When choosing the right group of people to assist you in a home-buying process, you have to know who will be in charge of each particular task and what the responsibilities of each member will be. Just like with a business team, each person is in charge of a key role and is responsible for making things happen. Without their full dedication, the home-building process can become longer and more complicated than necessary.

You must talk with different qualified lenders until you find one that can provide the financing you need, and then you must provide them with personal financial information, so you can determine the price range and loan amount that you can afford.

A real estate agent is often viewed as the captain of the ship and acts as the intermediary between you and the other party (seller or buyer). If you are a buyer, it is usually the seller who pays the agent at closing, not you. A real estate agent educates you on the properties you are viewing and oversees the offer and contract transactions.

Most buyers opt to have a real estate lawyer. They are responsible for checking and reviewing the contract before you invest in the property to be sure everything is properly disclosed and that there are no loopholes through which you can be taken advantage of. They check to be sure there are no items that could surprise you with unexpected financial liability later down the road. They also determine if there are any claims against the property that might need to be taken care of by the current owner before closing.

You should also have the property checked by a home inspector before buying it. They will evaluate the major systems in the home and explain to you the things that need to be repaired. This is especially important if there are major repairs that need to be done because you can often negotiate that the seller fix some of them before closing.

A property appraiser will ensure that the property is priced fairly and that you do not pay more for a property than what it is worth. This is very important to the financing process as well because banks and lenders will only finance properties based on their true value, not necessarily what you have offered to pay for the property.

A Guide to Choosing Floor Tiles

17 Mar

A Guide to Choosing Floor Tiles

Flooring can be very expensive to install, which is why it is a good idea to shop around first. Floor tiles come in many different materials, styles and colors, so regardless of your budget or decorating style, you are sure to find something that suits your needs.

Before you begin your search, familiarize yourself with the different types of floor tiles that are out there. Ceramic tiles are the most popular because of their price. Ceramic tiles are a man-made product and can be produced for a faction of the price of natural tiles, which is what makes them affordable. They come in an endless array of styles, designs, and sizes. They are also unlikely to stain or mark like natural tiles because they are non-porous.

Mosaic tiles are another type of tiling option that are usually made from different colored glass stones glued together. They offer a lot of variety and are also long-lasting and resistant to water, mud, and grease. Mosaic tiles are easy to install and are best suited for warmer areas because they are cold to the touch. Mosaic tiles are most often found in kitchens,  and many homeowners also combine them with other types of floor tiles to create unique designs.

Marble and granite tiles can bring a feeling of richness and prosperity to your home. Both materials can be maintained easily without much effort and come in many different colors and grain patterns. These are the most expensive types of tiling options, but they add a lot of value to your home if you have the budget to use them.

Proper planning is the key to purchasing the right type of tiles for your home. You need to measure the floor space of the room you want to tile to get a better idea of how many materials you will need at what cost. Planning ahead will also give you a better idea of which tiles would look best because you give yourself more time to explore all of the options that are available.
