Edmond Plans a Clean-up Effort, Needs Volunteers

When it comes to beautifying a community, lovely landscapes and towering trees are not the only attractive contributing attributes. Streets and urban lots must also be clean and free from any trash.

To maintain the cleanliness of the city, Edmond Beautiful and the City of Edmond are sponsoring an annual cleanup day on Saturday, April 12.Edmond’s Annual Operation Clean Community event is a clean-up effort in which the government and the public can join hands to keep the city clean and beautiful.

Edmond’s Annual Operation Clean Community event will part of the statewide Trash-Off Day by the Beautification Office of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. It is held every spring and utilizes the efforts of volunteers from public and government agencies. The event welcomes families, organizations, churches or individuals who wish to take part in cleaning up the city.

For this year, there will be cleaning services offered. Shredding of paper documents is available provided by RiteWay Shredding. Papers are shredded on the site and in the presence of the customers. Those who wish to avail themselves of this service will need to bring their utility bills with them.

Edmond Beautiful will be providing a collection of E-Waste units, which include computers, TVs and VCRs. There will also be a tire collection service open for Edmond residents only. Only car tires will be accepted.

The spring clean-up will be held from 9am to 12pmin the UCO parking lot behind the Fire Station No. 1. Volunteers are needed during the cleanup. There will be coffee and donuts for all volunteers plus a chance to win a prize for the Most Unusual Trash Picked.
