Transform Your Home with Contemporary Pendant Lighting

Transform Your Home with Contemporary Pendant Lighting

If you want to achieve a lovely lighting transformation in your home, contemporary pendant lighting could be the perfect solution. Contemporary pendant lighting enables you to add a stylish finish to your room without overshadowing your overall room design.

The first thing you have to do when looking for contemporary pendant lighting is to determine how you will be using it and where in your home you’ll be using it. One of the most common areas within the home where pendant lighting is used is in the kitchen. You can oftentimes find it hanging from the ceiling illuminating a kitchen counter or over a center island. Suspended lights above the kitchen counter can create a great focal point and make a nice visual impact. Simple and stylish pendant lighting can work well – you don’t have to go overboard with the design.

Pendant lighting comes in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for you to explore. Size is an exceptionally pivotal decision because, although you want your light to make a statement, you don’t want it to overpower the room and take all the focus away from the rest of the room. Carefully choose a design where the light can add value to the space, but not be out-of-place.

You should also carefully select the right color of lighting. You should always opt for a color that creates elegance in a room. If you are using the pendant lighting in the dining room, for example, yellow light is normally used, as it casts a slightly softer glow over the room versus harsher white light that would be used in more functionality-centric rooms like the kitchen.

Choosing Granite Countertops to Increase Home Value

Granite countertop are highly desirable among homeowners and home buyers because they are durable, scratched resistant, and have a beautiful aesthetic due to the variations of the natural rock. Granite countertops are so popular, in fact, that they are one of the smartest updates you can make to your home if you are wanting to increase its resale value on the market.

There are many different variations of granite countertops that cover a wide range of colors, patterns, and structural installation. Here are the most common types of granite installation options:

  1. Slab Granite Countertops – This type of granite countertop is considered high end because it is manufactured, fabricated, and installed as onepiece of block that is usually custom-made for a specific area. The average size of slab granite is 4 to 6 feet deep and 7 to 9 feet wide. Slab granite installation is not a DIY project – you must call in experienced professionals to properly handle the task. The cost of installing slab granite countertops can vary a lot depending on what type of granite you purchase and how easy it is to obtain that type of granite near your home, but a common cost is around $50 per square foot.
  2. Modular Granite Countertops – This type of granite countertop is made of smaller slabs cut into pieces that fit your area. You can create any style of surface distribution as you want, and they are about 3 to 4 times cheaper than natural slab stone. Modular granite countertops may have zero or several seams, depending on where you’re installing it. However, since modular granite pieces are quite big, they can still cover many areas without creating seams from multiple pieces.
  3. Granite Tile Countertops – This is the most inexpensive way to install granite. In fact, you can install it yourself, which lowers the cost even more. You can purchase granite tiles any home remodelling store for as low as $4 per square foot if you use ¾ inch granite sheets.

Once you’ve installed your granite countertops, maintain and clean them properly, so they will stay in good condition for years to come. Use granite-friendly cleaning products that do not contain lemon, acids, or vinegar, which will corrodethe surface. Also avoid scrubbing powders or abrasive products, as they can leave scratches on the surface.

Are You a Home Improvement Disaster?

18 Oct

Home improvements are great projects to undertake if you want to enhance and increase the value of your home. Upgrading your kitchen, giving your walls a fresh coat of paint, and refinishing your wood floors all help to enhance the beauty of your home.

However, the process of home renovations can sometimes go awry. When doing home renovations, expect a lot of costs, effort, and time to accomplish the project, not to mention possible safety risks if you’re doing things in perilous areas. Home renovation disasters are quite common, especially if you are not well-equipped with the proper safety knowledge when tackling the project.

So, how do you keep yourself from becoming a home improvement disaster? Are there ways to avoid disasters when renovating?  Of course there are!  Disasters during home renovations canbe averted if you are smart enough to know what you need to do and not do throughout the process.

Know if you can do it on your own or if you need to hire someone

Are you knowledgeable about home improvements? Have you done any home repairs before? Are you confident enough that you will be able to accomplish your renovation project on your own? If so, then you can probably work on the project yourself and save a lot of money in labor costs. If not, then it is best to hire someone who actually knows what they’re doing, so you will avoid costs associating with otherwise redoing projects that have been improperly done.

Implement safety measure throughout the process

Whether you do the project on your own or hire someone, it is important to ensure that safety measures are implemented to avoid physical injuries and damaged work.  Safety measures are not limited to the project area – they must also take place in areas surrounding it, such as your child’s bedroom, the hallway, the kitchen, and dining room.

Always read and confirm before doing anything

If you are using a tool for the first time, read the instructions thoroughly first before doing anything else. This will keep you guided on how to properly use the tool and avoid possibly irreversible errors.

Leave risky tasks to the professionals

Even if you do the renovation on your own, there are certain tasks that are best left to professionals, such as electrical installation and plumbing. Professionals specialize in dealing with these kinds of projects and are more effective at doing them.

Peripheral Energy Cuts Power Cost At Oklahoma Tower

1 Feb

Operating a building can be very expensive, namely the use of electricity being a huge expense. However, for Steve McKinney, President of Peripheral Energy, it is now possible to cut the cost of power in the building thanks to new technology that can save at least 6 percent overall of the building’s electricity bill. The Oklahoma Tower is now enjoying a reduction of $2,300 a month in energy bills.

The KVAR Energy Controllers used by the Peripheral Energy Company works by using a capacitor technology, making the motors run more effectively. In turn, power factor or the amount of electricity that is used is also increased. McKinney indicated that the company is optimizing the motors so they will have an extended life and will be able to cut electrical demand. About three years is the estimated time for the equipment to pay itself off.

Eric Starns, Property Manager for Grubb & Ellis-Levy Beffort, said that the Oklahoma Tower exceeded the normal repayment time. In fact, nine months later, it’s already paid off. The new technology by Peripheral Energy was applied to their seven motors therefore reducing electricity costs last summer despite high temperatures, which causes the building to use more power. For Starns, the new power-saving equipment has increased the power factor of their seven motors to at least 98 percent.

Right now, Peripheral Energy has cut down energy costs to other buildings such as Kickapoo Casino in Shawnee and Linn Energy in Canadian County. Kickapoo Casino has cut down their electricity costs by $2,000 while Linn Energy moved from $5,100 energy costs to $2,100.
